Q:   What is limestone?

A:   Limestone is the most common Sedimentary rocks found in deposits all over the world. It takes thousands of years for these rocks to form, primarily from remains of plants, animal remains and reefs. Limestone comes in different colours and textures but is predominantly white or crème in Australia. Limestone is very popular in Architectural designs and is widely used for road bases, building and landscape designs.

Q:   What is the difference between natural and reconstituted limestone?

A:   Natural limestone blocks are cut directly from the floor of the quarry, whereas reconstituted limestone is a manufactured product made by using high quality crushed limestone and cream cement therefore they preserve the look and feel of natural limestone with the added strength and superior qualities of the manufactured product, which doesn't crumble nor discolour over time.

Q:   Why does natural limestone become discoloured?

A:    Natural limestone is a porous stone and if subjected to damp and wet, such as rain, which is an inevitable fact even in West Australia’s hot climate, it can create an appropriate environment for lichen, algea or moss to grow. If the growth is not removed in its early stages it may darken the stone. Dark soils may also darken natural limestone.

Q:   Why does reconstituted limestone not become discoloured to the same extent?

A:    Reconstituted limestone does not discolour to the same extent because, it is not as porous. However, Remastone recommends sealing of our product to retain the original colour for as long as possible; Please ask us or a landscaping professional for advice on this matter.

Q:   What advice can Remastone give about building with reconstituted limestone products?

A:    Mind your back –  it is heavy work to build with limestone blocks. Although reconstituted, the limestone blocks are made of a natural stone material. A positive aspect is that due to the size of the blocks, you see results of your labour quickly. Enjoy being creative and we can guarantee that you will be proud of the final outcome.

Q:   How do I clean my blocks and pavers?

A:   We recommend the use of high pressure water cleaner with soapy water. Do not use acids as it may affect the surfaces

Q:   Why some blocks look different?

A:   Our products are manufactured using natural raw material, therefore there will always be a variation in texture between one block and the next; this is what makes them unique.

Q:   What is the white powder that appears on the blocks / pavers?

A:   The white powder that appears on the pavers or blocks is called Efflorescence. This is a temporary condition caused by the migration of salt to the surface of the product due to evaporation. Do not attempt to clean the deposit with any chemicals or industrial cleaner as it may damage the surface. The best option is to brush the surface with a broom and rinse with water. The deposit will dissipate in time.
